Presented by The 7th Annual Utah Chocolate Show  

Presenting the 2010 competition, created exclusively for Utah area-based

creators and artisans of hand-made chocolates.

This competition is open to trained professionals & amateurs alike.

OFFICIAL RULES OF PARTICIPATION 

Awards: Winners are announced in an invitation-only presentation, Friday morning, 11/20/09, immediately preceding the opening of the Utah Chocolate Show to the public. The Utah Chocolate Show is at South Towne Expo Center in Sandy, Utah. The scores of three professional judges are tabulated to determine one winner in each category. Various special distinctions may also be awarded at the judges’ discretion.   

Success Showcase: A dedicated display gallery in a prime location of the show hall showcases & clearly credits every winner by name. The display gallery is enjoyed by show attendees from open to close, throughout the 2-day show.  

7 Categories for entry: EACH ENTRANT MAY enter ONLY 3 ITEMS. THEY MAY ALL BE WITHIN THE SAME CATEGORY OR IN DIFFERENT CATEGORIES, BUT 3 ITEMS PER COMPETITOR

See entry form. A category win is awarded to BEST:  Use of Milk Chocolates; Use of Dark Chocolates; Truffle; Dipped or Enrobed Chocolate; Molded Chocolate; Caramel; Toffee. (NOTE: Toffee & caramel entries must contain chocolate, either in their composition OR on their exterior.) 

KEY INFO FOR ALL ENTRANTS:

  1. Deadline: All entries must be received by NOON, Friday, Nov. 12, 2010.  Entries can be hand-delivered OR shipped to be received at Gygi Culinary Solutions. Instructions are found on the entry form. All entries must be accompanied by completed form & entry fee.
  2. Judging: Professional blind judging is conducted privately & will be completed within the following week. No information that you provide on the entry form or with your submitted samples is seen by the judges. Entries are judged & assigned score values by judges on their taste, texture, appearance, and technical skill.
  3. Winning: Multiple wins  (up to 3) are possible. Each individual piece competes on its own merit.  Distinctions are awarded to individual pieces, & not to a submitting business; a win in one category does not exclude a maker from eligibility in other categories.
  4. Submission: Detailed instructions are on the entry form, below.

You will be notified of any wins by NOON, Wednesday, 11/17, so you can plan to attend the awards presentation at 10:15 am, Friday 11/19. ALL entrants are welcome & invited to attend.  

NOTE: By the request of the judges, it is recommended that entrants submit one dozen separate pieces of each item entered for competition. With at least 3 judges, this allows for (a) revisiting/re-tasting by the judges, (b) replacement in the event that a piece is cosmetically damaged in transit, and (c) adequate items for attractive display arrangement in “A Small Extravagance” Success Showcase at the “Utah Chocolate Show"
